  1. Hi Allen, Completed my 5th Full Marathon with PB 4:14:13 at Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon on 18th Jan 2015. The best part is I did exactly as I planned and without injury. The various articles in your blog helped me from time time and thank you very much.

  2. That's a nice progression! You're slowly inching towards breaking 4 hours. Another 2-3 years, and you'll be there. Some people would want to get there faster, but I favor slow and steady progress in your running. Small increases in performance that your body can handle. Also, you're older than many runners, and your body needs more time than younger runners would need.

  3. One of the key things is that you're running marathons and have no injuries! That's the way it should be.

  9. Completed my first international marathon at Hong Kong on 17 Jan 2016, with a timing of 4:13:45. Heavy rains till 34 km and after that so many flyovers during the next 8 kilometres... Tough course it was. I managed without any injuries. Could not reduce much from my previous timing , but 30 seconds only. But I am very happy.

  10. Hi Allen, How are you doing? I completed two marathons in Oct 2016 (4:21) and One week back (4:36).After the last marathon, I caught fever & cold.I think the reason is improper training! Now will start running after recovery from fever & throat infection.

    1. Hi Raju,

Congratulations on your two marathons! 26.2 miles puts a lot of stress on ones body, and it takes about a month to recover from that stress.

I'm doing fine. I had a pace maker installed last August, and it has helped a lot. My heart was stopping every once in a while, and that hasn't happened since the pace maker was installed. The longest stopping of my heart was 11 seconds, and the occurrences of stoppage were getting more frequent.

I'm running quite slow, and I am alternating running and walking: 80 seconds running (actually more of a jog) and 60 seconds walking. That is my goal, to get out there three times per week.

  12. A sub 4 hr marathon at last....yesterday, on 15th Oct 2017 managed 3:58:18 at Bangalore, India. It was tough, but somehow finished strong sprinting the last 100mtr.... I have turned to Vegan diet for the past 6 months and stopped consuming sugar since 1.5 years....How are you doing?

  13. Congratulations! A sub 4-hour marathon is super Especially so since you sprinted that last 100 meters.

I'm doing pretty good, especially for my age (82). I don't do any races, but I enjoy my runs and walks. I'm still doing 80 seconds jogging and 60 seconds walking. I'm slowly increasing my distance. I listen to my body, and it tells me when it is ready for more distance My personal blog at http://oldmanrunning.org tracks my runs.

  16. Hi Raju,

I'm doing fine. Doing 3.5 miles for a heavy run and 2.6 miles for a light run. Going out 3 times per week, running, actually jogging, for 95 seconds and then walking for 70 seconds. I'm getting into territory that I haven't been into for 2 or 3 years, and it is nice to be there, again.
